Abbreviated Version of the Minutes includes main ideas and motions passed:

Motion passed: NFMC Essay Competition is in the 2013-2014 budget and now available to any of NFMC student.

2013 Festival Report: over 550 entries in 11 events from 34 clubs, with 390 Superior ratings.

The State Honors Recital is held on the second Sunday afternoon @ 3 p.m. in April (depending on Easter).

Motion passed: the website calendar may be updated prior to the Fall Board Meeting.

Motion passed: each Nebraska chapter will order its own NFMC Federation Festivals Bulletin2014-2015-2016.

Nebraska Federation Piano Scholarship (Collegiate Scholarship for 16 to 25 year olds):

o 2013 expenses were lower because the Nebraska Federation Piano Scholarship was canceled due to lack of applicants.

o Debra Heald is the new director of Nebraska Federation Piano Scholarship Competition.

o Motion passed:
“For the Collegiate Scholarship, repertoire played in one competition may not be played in subsequent competitions.”

Ø General discussion

o Brief discussion of Nebraska piano students:

§ Anna Lundberg, a 15 year old, died from a car accident on May 6, 2013.

v She performed in the Difficult II level and achieved six consecutive superior ratings.

v Cheryl Freeman took Anna’s NFMC Gold Cup with a plant to the service.

§ A piano student from Bellevue is recovering from an accident from horseback riding.

§ A beginner student in Lincoln has cancer and travels to Omaha for treatments.

Ø Treasurer’s Report as of June 1, 2013

o Treasurer Bonnie Guinn’s Report was submitted, discussed, and approved.

§ All expenses in support of NMFC should be submitted for reimbursement.

§ Expenses were less as the Nebraska Federation Piano Scholarship Competition was canceled.

Committee Reports

o Details were discussed in the process of reporting data to the national level.

§ Student names are not necessary to submit in the count of students in Festival.

§ Late fees may be overruled by the NFMC State Treasurer Bonnie Guinn.

o Festival Report: over 550 entries in 11 events from 34 clubs, with 390 Superior ratings.

o Nebraska Federation Piano Scholarship Competition for 16 to 25 year olds:

§ Canceled in 2013 due to lack of applicants.

§ A rule change regarding competition repertoire was submitted and approved:

“For the collegiate competitions, repertoire played in one competition may not be played in subsequent competitions.”

§ Under consideration: suggest that teachers invite students to listen to this high skill level.

o State Honors Recital Report: the recital was very good this year.

§ The State Honors Recital is held on the second Sunday in April, (depending on Easter).

§ Festivals throughout the state should be scheduled prior to the recital date.

o Essay competition motion passed:

§ The essay competition will be a new competition available to any of NFMC student.

§ The essay competition will be a line-item in the budget beginning June 1, 2013.

o Camp Scholarships:

§ No camp scholarships were given in the fiscal year of 2012-2013.

§ The decision to add camp scholarships in the 2013-2014 budget was tabled.

o Composition contest was successful.

§ Teachers need to turn in all reports, not only piano performance reports.

§ Composition reports from chairperson should be emailed to Bonnie Guinn and Cheryl Freeman.

Former business or tabled topics

o Updating of the bylaws in progress

§ Ellen Kershaw will be updating the bylaws for the Nebraska Federation of Music Clubs.

§ Bylaws are updated every five years for the National Federation of Music Clubs.

o An emergency provision will be included in the bylaws

§ Business may be handled by email.

§ Board meetings may be canceled in case of emergencies.

New business and upcoming concerns

o A decision to contribute to the memorial scholarship fund for the outgoing national president was tabled.

o Debra Heald is our new director of the Nebraska Federation Piano Scholarship Competition.

o NFMC Festivals Bulletin 2014-2015-2016

§ It was submitted and approved that each Nebraska chapter orders its own bulletins.

§ Bonnie Guinn will order bulletins for Bellevue and contact members by email.

§ Bonnie Guinn will contact Maria Jacobsen about the new bulletins.

o Website

§ The motion was passed to update the website calendar prior to the NFMC Fall Board Meeting.

§ The NFMC president may approve website changes such as link suggested by Laura Hensley

Miscellaneous

o Membership was discussed with the idea of creating a form letter.

o Meeting was adjourned.v
